Cycling Report
The shorts match the vest made last year and the aim is to get the club recognized when its members are involved in events around the country. Also in preparation for the coming season there is to be a ‘training event’ ride on the 8th of October.
This ride will take riders the full loop to Mananui, National park and back to Tokaanu. A ride that is comparable in length and difficulty to many one day events around the country. The riders will determine the distance they will ride depending on what they are training for.
There has been much interest from Taumaranui riders who are training for their event later in October and the lake Taupo cycle challenge. It is expected to have several teams and at lest a few individuals. The legs are set up in such a way that anyone could ride at least one of the legs so we are hoping to get a good turnout of our local cyclist.
The pre ride briefing is to be held at the Tokaanu Water sports centre and riders will meet their after completing the ride.
Also on the calendar have been rides at Craters of the moon, and a trip from Tree trunk gorge to town, which was really enjoyable despite the rain. Next month there is a ride planned to Pureora forest to ride a new track that has opened recently.
At our last meeting we received tales from France from our 2 riders who followed Le Tour this year. We look forward to the photos and more stories soon.

Graeme Barret offered a suggestion that the club consider moving its meeting place from the current OIC to the sports foundation building, giving the club a base (and a set of keys). The debate went both for and against and it was agreed to bring this back to the table at the next meeting. For was a more central location and access to the club rooms, against was harder to find and many rides can be started from the OIC location.
Wym has suggested he ask a Friend of his who has an interest in sports nutrition to give a short talk to the club on sports drinks and options . It was agreed that he ask him along to the next meeting.
