Cycling Report
To maintain club spirit there was a “mid winter’ gathering which this year was held at ‘the lakehouse’ at Waihi. A total of 22 took advantage of the evening which also served and a “Bon Voyage” for members who were heading away to France to follow the most important cycle event of the year the “Tour de France” . Turangi has at least 4 people following the race in person with some riding to be done in the most scenic parts of France. The evening was a great success and I am sure it will be repeated next Winter.
With Gratitude to the huckleberries Charitable Trust the Club is having Cycling Shorts ,or ‘knicks’ as they seem to be called these days, emblazoned with the Clubs Logo and name. These will be a great addition to the vests which were produced last year. Not only will these add to club spirit locally but will also make members stand out in the crowd at events promoting our town for recreational cycling.
The Wednesday rides continue as night rides around local mountain bike tracks and have continued to have good turnouts when the weather allows. Weekend rides have also been interrupted by severe weather but some local mountain bike rides have been undertaken with great leadership form Darrel Couchman (president), John Walker (club captain) and Graeme Barret (ride manager) ensuring the rides go ahead. Also when rides could not take place there ahs been some clearing of tracks so we can look forward to some great riding this summer, thanks to those who brought their scrub cutters and leant a hand.
The Web site, Turangicycling.org, is proving to be a great tool for the members with the ride calendar and other information regularly updated by Christina , the clubs tech support centre, and her efforts are also greatly appreciated.
As the days lengthen we look forward to the time when we can resume evening training rides and the forthcoming events of the new season but for the mean time the club will continue its local rides so check the calendar and come and join in.
Safe cycling
