Night Wear

  • The law requires you to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle (this includes any passengers you are carrying).
  • Compulsory Equipment required by law:
    • A red or yellow rear reflector that is visible from a distance of 100 meters when light shines on it.
    • Good brakes on the front and back wheels (or, if the cycle was made before 1 January 1988, a good brake on the back wheel).
    • When cycling at night or when visibility is poor, cycles must have the following:
      • A steady or flashing rear-facing red light that can be seen at night from a distance of 100 meters.
      • One or two white or yellow headlights that can be seen at night from a distance of 100 meters. If the cycle is fitted with one headlamp, that headlamp may be flashing. If fitted with two headlamps, only one of the headlamps may be flashing. Yellow pedal reflectors or the cyclist must be wearing reflective material.
  • For further information, cycling advice, cycling hints and what the law says for cyclists, read through The official New Zealand code for Cyclists published by the NZ Transport Agency. The code book also details the new laws regarding cycling through roundabouts and intersections.

Secret Night Ride - Update from Nightrider

  Hi
Had good ride last night (9th June) , the wind at the road was quite cold but once we got into the trees we were fine, it’s a bit of a pull up the hill on the first part of the ride, once at the top it’s a very doable ride for any one, excellent gravel track, only a few stairs, the sand on the beach was mainly wet or damp so quite manageable.  Actual ride time was about 45 minutes, keeping details to a minimum on this occasion... .niterider (AKA Wim)

May Points Race (MTB)

Muddy ride - we wish we had taken a camera... what was with Darryl's back wheel almost coming off when the bike was lifted over the river! Graham and Wally, got to the top and took the quick ride down - so they did the hard ride and then went home. Well Done Graham!! Mud was flying everywhere when we descended the Saddle Hill

Pylon Track - Points given for first rider to top of the Grade 4 Hill.
